so i just realized that you don't get notification when people comment on your entries! how dumb am i! answer: pretty dumb! but thank you for the comments, erin and steph. they were neglected, but now they are not!
last night i watched the merchant and ivory version of a room with a view. i liked the book way better, but it was still pretty good. helena bonham carter looked really young, and daniel day lewis had a dumb haircut, but what can you say, it was 1986. and all i could think about during the big bathing scene with george, freddy, and mr. beebe was that e.m. forster must have enjoyed this, wherever he is now. i love e.m. forster. he was friends with w.h. auden and christopher isherwood! the best friendships are author friendships, don't you know. literary fun fact: w.h. auden married a german lesbian author in 1935 in order to get her a british passport to escape the nazis. he was awesome. i wish i could hang out with him and talk about the sino-japanese wars.
the bad part about watching a room with a view was that in led to my writing of bad fanfiction! oh no! i am only admitting this because i think everyone should and probably has written bad fanfiction at least once in their life and i am owning up to mine. it will stay locked away where no one will ever find it. i don't think i've written fiction since i was in middle school. in truth, it wasn't all that bad, i don't think, but still. lock and key. these are incriminating times or some such nonsense.
i will now end this entry with one of my favorite comics for no reason at all! if i ever become a history teacher [it is possible], all i will do is show kate beaton comics. she is awesome. also! another thing for absolutely no reason at all: isn't the guy who plays tiberius gracchus in 'the battle for rome' dreamy? sigh. go on out there and campaign for the common people and work it, tiberius. the senators may assassinate you but you'll always live on in my heart.

ferret! snake! orca!
OH MAN GUYS. you know what show was AWESOME back in the day?
DANGER BAY. it was this canadian show about a marine biologist! but he solved crimes! and they showed it on the disney channel in the states! how much more awesome can one show be? my grandparents lived in british columbia for a while and this was always my vision of what their house looked like when i was growing up. except they probably didn't use so many sea helicopters. but my uncles did ride like, a sea school bus to school! CANADA IS AMAZING.

maybe you will have a girl tonight.
i think that lazy line painter jane is one of my favorite belle and sebastian songs ever, if not one of my favorite songs in general ever. it makes me regret never learning how to play the organ and it makes me think of warm summer nights and it's just good times all around. i also like every goddamned song off of "the life pursuit" and will one day be scottish and write songs about playing football and buying cocaine and various other quaint topics. fantastic.
i have a feeling i will be talking about music in here a lot. c'est la vie.
my cousin heather was in town this weekend. among many other things, we went to ikea. i already knew i loved sweden, but i'll say it again. i love sweden. so many good things come from there. it is one of my many, many life goals to move to stockholm one day. every photograph of me will feature me in a scarf, i suspect. and pigtails, because apparently every girl in sweden is supposed to look like maria. god i love that comic. she's doing a fundraising drive for the next two weeks and every donation over twenty bucks gets a hand-drawn sketch and i want one so bad but i've already spent like $55 over the past month or so on art and i really shouldn't spend anymore. sigh. we'll just have to see.
and now i'm off to read historical fiction about ancient crete. hott.

post punk always equals sophomore year.
so i am listening to the appleseed cast and as my title suggests, they remind me of high school. getting into bands was so fun back then. i remember makeoutclub.com was a goldmine of new bands to discover; it's where i found jawbreaker, and for that, i am eternally grateful. although i think i got into jets to brazil first, but whatever. it's all blake schwartzenbach in the end. but yeah, appleseed cast! one of the best shows i ever went to, and i went with the most random people. i think it was like, sara lambeth, brian donkersley, and ben manker-seale, and my dad drove us, and we met the drummer and the bassist on the train tracks next to solar culture, and it was amazing. i miss going to shows! but music talk is boring so i'll move on.
i should have been asleep like two hours ago but my sleep schedule is all messed up due to work. i work from 8 pm to 1 am a couple times a week now at kohl's of all places but it's a job. i need money for my house, which i should be moving into sometime in august, so you know. welcome to the working week and all that. i am so excited about my house. i have been buying art off of etsy and places like that and the other day i bought a rug. it's a very grown-up feeling to be excited about buying a rug. i will have to have some sort of get together when i get moved in, though my place is tiny and will probably only fit like two other people. but i have a back patio. and awesome retro wood paneling. so what i'm saying is i will make it work somehow.
