the problem is that it seems very much like a problem i should be having at around age nineteen, not twenty-two. woefully behind! it's the story of my life. the good news is that i'm not nineteen, so i'm not really angsty-sad about it. that would be majorly annoying. i'm just frustrated and restless. that is slightly less annoying. which is better for the audience, don't you know.

in other news, i cannot stop drinking tea. this afternoon i listened to classical music, read my italy 2008 travel book from the library, and drank an entire pot of tea. it was awesome. i felt about sixty years old. i'm rather looking forward to being old one day. i feel as though i'd do a lot of the things that i do now but i wouldn't give a fuck as much. this can only be a good thing. in other news, i have had writing ideas lately and actually wrote them down so i wouldn't forget them. and all i keep doing is advancing the plots and working out characterizations and all that in my head. it's a shame that they're all centered around silly topics! oh well. it's a fun distraction, and any writing is good writing in my book. who knows, maybe one day there will be some insufferable novel floating around out there with my name on it. and i will say, it all started on blogger, reading public. blame them, not me.

terminal.

so a lot of things are happening to me right now! the most important thing is that i am not renewing my lease. i'm pretty bummed, i won't lie. but it is just the right thing to do. i have no connection to this area of town anymore. i am a fifteen minute walk to campus but if i'm not taking classes [hint: i'm not going to be taking any classes], what is the advantage of that? my job is on the north side and although it's far from ideal, it's steady and decent money and i don't know where else i would work. i have no connections or friends who live downtown once evan moves [and i never saw him anyway]. it doesn't make sense in the long run, even though my little apartment is pretty much perfect for me in every way [except for the thin walls and the sudden appearance of weak, angry pipes]. additionally? signing a lease for another year would anchor me in tucson for another year. and that is...not okay. i'm getting restless. it's actually beyond that; i am restless, it just continues to get worse. giving up my house means one less thing keeping me here. if an opportunity comes up, i have very little holding me back. and i will be saving a metric ton of money, which i can put toward the thing that i really want to do: traveling. i don't know. i have a lot of things that i am thinking about, and a lot of things that i am planning right now. all of them have become instantly much more attainable once i decided this. i know that i have been changing plans constantly for about six months now, but this is one decision, one plan that seems completely reasonable and mature and holy crap adult, you know? i mean, i looked at a situation, realized that although it was comfortable and fun, it wasn't going to work out in the long run and i changed it. and this is me we're talking about. how about that. but seriously, i need to have at least one more party at my house before i move out in july! the domo-kun pinata will now be symbolic of the breaking open of my life! not really.

although. i don't know. i feel like something inside of me has changed this week. there's the stuff in the above jumbled paragraph. but then i also chopped a bunch of my hair off, which is a small thing but something that i have always been sort of afraid of doing. there are other things. but i don't know. i just feel different this week. i feel like my whole outlook on life and myself and all that has changed and i am really hoping that this isn't just like, a one am revelation that fades once it's morning. hmm. i guess only time will tell.

anyway! this entry seems heavy so i will now break it up the only way i know how: video share! so in the last episode of hetalia [i know, i know], italy squishes a kitten's paw repeatedly. and it is like, the most adorable, hilarious thing i have ever seen. i wish i could share it! but the video isn't loading. sadface. so here is a scene from bedknobs and broomsticks instead.

friday nights at the drive-in bingo.

i feel like i just wrote an entry in here and yet it has been almost two months since i last wrote! how has everyone been coping with this fact? i imagine babies crying, national days of mourning, and newspaper headlines asking, "where oh where is our dose of robyn-soaked mediocrity?" here is your answer!

the problem is that i always forget about what happened to me during long absences. i look back on however long it's been and it's just this long, jumbled mass of late nights at work and driving places and studying math and like, watering my plants or making my bed a lot and i'm like, wow, i am a boring person. but i do remember that my car got broken into since i last wrote! i woke up one morning to my landlady telling me that my side window had been smashed in and there was glass all over the ground. luckily, they didn't take anything; i think that they thought that the emergency kit i keep in my car was a laptop case. not so much! but it's all fixed now and we have a light in the parking area to scare away any wandering, shifty people now. the end!

what else. i need to get another job. again. i am probably starting pima culinary school in the fall. i want to make a thousand tiny cakes in my badass 4.5-inch springform pan. i am growing italian herbs, tomatoes, and jalapenos in my window. i love stats. i have been randomly getting into scandanavian bands lately. equally randomly, i started teaching myself dutch on byki. goede avond! i will also be starting french in the fall because a. i have always wanted to learn french, and b. it is helpful if you want to get into baking, which i do. i also want to have a pizza, wine, and black books night which should end with the breaking of the domo-kun pinata so we can all laugh and partake in probably stale halloween candy. sounds awesome, yes? although i will have to wait until it is air conditioner season so i won't worry about noise in my paper thin-walled house. lamexcore. did you know that horseshoes is a gentleman's sport? i do now, thanks to the bastards behind me who play all the damned time! i can hear their entire, boring conversations in my bedroom! it is awesome, especially when it is one am and i am trying to sleep. oh college neighborhoods.

now i have to go to work so goede avond for reals this time.

something to talk about.

i really love badly drawn boy. the soundtrack to about a boy is one of the best soundtracks ever and it just makes me want to wear a track jacket and walk around a city park with a lake. specific! but true. it also now reminds me of being in seattle and eating at a taco time that randomly played a bunch of his songs. amazing. fyi: taco time will taste the same whether you are six or twenty-two: DELICIOUS.

the up-and-downs continue for me. yesterday was a bad day! but today feels better. mostly everything is tied to what i'm doing with my life right now. in one week i have: decided that i want to go to culinary school, got really excited about culinary school, realized that culinary was way too expensive, got really sad about culinary school, re-looked at pima, decided that i could go to culinary school through pima, got really excited about culinary school again, started feeling weird about not getting a 'traditional' education, looked at ua again, hated it again, started thinking about canada, looked at the other ua [university of alberta!], fell in love with it, realized that it would also be way too expensive unless i was canadian or had dual citizenship [if only my dad had lived there longer, the jerk], looked at summer courses at arizona ua again, and randomly found four i wanted to take. it's a little...well, insane, really. i just don't know what i really want to do right now. i knew what i wanted to do, and i had it planned out to the semester, but then i ended up really hating it at ua. i think what i am going to do is just go to summer school and use it as a litmus test. if summer school goes really well, then i will keep going on the path i wanted to go on before everything got de-railed, but at an accelerated pace and more simplified [no double and triple majors, jesus, self] so i can get through it faster. then after i go to japan for a year [waseda daigakusei ni naritai yo!] i will graduate! all the while, i will be taking sporadic culinary classes so theoretically, when i graduate from ua, i will also be graduating from pima's culinary program! however, if summer school goes badly, then it's straight to culinary school i guess! i am hoping to get a lot of scholarships so i can help my parents get through all these schemes in one piece. but that is my plan for right now. it will probably change in an hour and i will decide that my true calling is rock climbing. but it really helped to write that out so thanks, blogger!

that is probably more than enough for now so i will shut it. good luck at your circus, bree and steph!

pastaaa!

so. i have this secret love. and its name is axis power hetalia. and i am going to talk about it now because it's...pretty awesome. it's about...well, here is how some random person on the internetz described it:

Axis Powers Hetalia is basically a webcomic-turned-manga-turned-anime about the world's countries turned into bishonen and left to play out World History, cracky boys' love style. together, what more do i need. it's basically the nerdiest thing ever and i only understand what's going on like a third of the time but it's fantastic. the stereotypes really are ridiculous but it's just too funny to really care about. the history part is a little more bothersome to me because at times you feel like a lot of these really serious events are being totally trivialized and glossed over in a major, not-so-good way. i mean, it sort of goes against western [and especially american] thought to be suddenly presented with chibi versions of the axis powers. i think in the end it's one of those things where everybody's being made fun of and stereotyped so it's okay-ish and america just put a hamburger on his head so it's all good.

so! after that whole thing, in case anyone is interested, these three are good web comics to start with [russia is awesome], and here is where you can watch the episodes online. there's only three so far and they're only five minutes long! the end song is way catchy. and now i am watching the first episode again and it is making me wonder if i am just crazy for loving this the way i do. ah well. let's have a toast with our boots!
i feel like i haven't updated in forever, mostly because i sort of haven't. december was a busy month filled with lots of working and dealing with my cousin and living my life in both my parents' house and my house and then going to seattle, which was so, so fantastic and needed and lovely, and then january was all coming home and jumping back into school and work and basically living out the life of a typical twenty-two-year-old, or trying to, i guess.

actually, 'trying to' is the perfect way to describe it. lately i feel very...poorly held together, let's say. like i've been taped together but the tape's getting kind of stretched out and not sticking all that well and everything is about a good push away from falling apart. i always hesitate when i start to write entries like these because i've been traumatized by past blogs wherein i wrote long entries talking about my issues and feelings and other crap like that in a way that i thought was tasteful and not looking for attention, when really they were whiny and melodramatic and purple prose-y. also i have a tendency of going through the same cycles of problems over and over again without any real resolution and that gets old so. you know. i have just sort of stopped writing regularly over the years. the jury's out on whether it's been good or bad for my head. probably the latter but c'est la vie.

but with all that said. lately i've been all over the place. the ups are good but the downs are crushing and i have vague ideas of what i can do about it all but usually i just press on and walk to class or drive to work or sweep the front porch and play morrissey a little more frequently and hope that the next day will be better. the anne shirley way, more or less. it just gets old sometimes. and there's a lot more to it but for tonight i'll just leave it here because i'm getting tired and i should probably read about queen anne and her dozens of miscarriages before i go to sleep. quelle excitement.
<img width='1' height='1' the time now. i am trying to figure out how i can go to the inaguration next year. i don't think it's going to happen but man. that would be awesome.

anyway. i have not written in a long time. that is because nothing much has been happening. except now stuff has happened. big news for bree: i am getting a cat. this cat is attached my new roomate who will be living with me for a month. she's going to sleep on a mattress in my living room! she is also my cousin. i am not saying which one because stephanie hates one of them and it will be more mysterious this way. it all happened really fast. she needs to be here to finish her divorce stuff. then she is moving to hawaii or possibly dc in january. she was going to find an apartment but i offered because that would be difficult and stressful and now i have a roomate! for a month, but still. built in skateboarding friend!

in other news, i hate my mall job! i want to quit but can't because next week is thansgiving and that would just be mean. in even more news, next week is thanksgiving! it will be all about baking bread and seeing awesome people. what else. i have been watching the simpsons a lot lately. i am going to seattle in exactly a month. i got a wii! i can't afford games which sucks because my work friend keeps on telling me about all the awesome ones that are coming out. my work friend [his name is zach] and i also went to comic con! it was pretty lame and smelled gross but there were storm troopers at the door and a girl dressed up as robin at the bus stop. batman and robin robin, not shortpacked robin. though that would have been way better. um. i may be taking german next semester, or i may not be taking any classes at all in order to save money. i am reading a <a cannot pronounce! maybe when i start learning hindi. i want to learn hindi! and write a book! i actually have an idea for once. and i still have most of my decorations from the hp party up still. awesome. and in closing, look at what is coming out [no pun intended i suppose]!

<param name="movie" believe that they exist. Are they professional actors? I wonder. Or are they simply laymen who want a lot of attention? To put them in perspective, I think of being on an airplane. The flight attendant comes down the aisle with her food cart and, eventually, parks it beside my seat. "Can I interest you in the chicken?" she asks. "Or would you prefer the platter of shit with bits of broken glass in it? To be undecided in this election is to pause for a moment and then ask how the chicken is cooked."

also, this video [sorry it's from perez hilton, i don't have a better link] pretty much sums up my worries about sarah palin. i cannot wait until november fifth.

i say, i think i'm going to faint.

it is so funny because even though i have two jobs now i am still not working enough. i work one day this week at kohl's, and one at lb plus one day that i may have to come in for. i have no doubt that november is going to be insane but for now i randomly have all this free time! perhaps i should get a third job. ha. ha.

i finished maurice by em forster the other day. it was lovely. i usually have a hard time getting through books written in older prose because they're a bit hard to get into [it's why i've only ever read pride and prejudice and none of jane austen's other works], but for some reason i love forster's writing. it's so simple but gorgeous and his characters are relatable and real even though they're so far away, time-wise. and a good portion of this book is in cambridge. i do love cambridge. oh and alec says 'fuck'! edwardian people swearing is endlessly entertaining. i also watched the movie. i really liked it, much more than i liked the movie version of a room with a view. james wilby was an awesome maurice, though he needed to have the moustache for longer. it is so funny, it's like he and hugh grant have a great moustache swap midway through the movie. oh and hugh grant made me feel bad for clive! i didn't think it was possible. way to go, young hugh grant. also, i love that according to this wikipedia article, forster showed one of the manuscripts to christopher isherwood before it was published. aww. auden/forster/isherwood = ot3!

hogwarts party on friday! undoubtedly hilarious. now i want indian food.

this is so random but i get so annoyed when people bitch about only children. oh no they'll be so lonely and sad and everyone just needs a boatload of siblings to be happy! eye rolling here. my childhood was not perfect but i don't think that a brother or sister would have made a difference in it. there were times that i wished i had a sibling but i really appreciate the experiences that being an only child brought on. i developed really good relationships with my cousins [and my mom, but that was sort of...unintentional] and learned to do things on my own at an earlier age. and i don't know, i just think that no one ever says, oh man, i feel so bad that my child grew up with siblings! i mean, i didn't think people really said anything negative about only children either but lately i have been hearing it and yeah. lame.

disjointed entry is disjointed so i am going back to watching futurama and listening to my neighbors slam their doors. exciting.

i know it's a steak.

i threw a package of men's underwear at my co-worker [uh twice] and i forgot that we have cameras in the store and i am now worried that i am going to get fired for it. it would be the best worst story ever: i got fired for getting into an underwear fight while doing clearance. i like it too because we followed up the fight with a discussion of this dude he slept with who was named thor. i kind of sort of love work.

i am really sad that i missed the debates tonight though! dastardly villians, complete with thin mustaches! seriously, you guys. bollywood. why have i been ignoring it for so long? also, i kind of want to marry shahrukh khan now. and apply maybelline make-up with deepika padukone.

number of weeks at university completed: one. it's...okay so far. chinese is going pretty well i guess. my main teacher is hilarious and awesome, but we only have her on mondays and fridays. the rest of the week we have a t.a., who is really nice but it's harder to get the exact way we should be pronouncing things from her. i still don't know for sure if "zhu" should be pronounced with a "j"-sound or a "zds"-sound. oh well. my women's history class seems promising. my professor is adorable. he showed a simpsons episode on the first day. what is not to like. but i don't know. i'm just not loving u of a as much as i thought i would. i'm sure it will get better but everyone just seems like an asshole so far. which can't be true but i don't know. i just kind of want to go back to pima and take fun classes forever. which is so, so lame. but whatever. i'm sure it will get better.

it is my birthday next week! usually i get really excited about birthdays because i am tweleve. but this year i don't really care. i have a lot going on. i work on my birthday this year, i forgot to ask for it off. so i basically have a four-hour time period for birthday fun, because i have school too. oh well. this is what happens when you get old. maybe i will run away to india in those four hours. and say ommmm shanti ommmm. and then all the cool boys will make some noise and say ommmmm shanti ommmm. i've never really been in a hurricane. but the point is. it was raining so much that it took me twice as long to get to the oracle-ish area and i decided to just go to the kohl's parking lot and wait it out because i had work soon anyway. i parked my car and watched the storm all around me. the lights went out in the parking lot but they were playing an old deftones song i hadn't heard in a while so somehow it was okay. the whole time i was thinking about this one story stephanie told me a long time ago about how when she was little her mom would always make her sit in the car during thunderstorms. it was pretty fun but then i got my shoes all wet when i ran inside and i had to put up ads with soaking wet shoes that have holes in them! that is not professional, robyn. they said that it rained a lot by the u of a. i hope my house is okay. i still need to move down there. soon!

i keep on having all this self-doubt about my abilities as an academic but that is probably a topic better saved for another day! i am pretty afraid of flying though so i doubt this would end up happening. there goes my dream of being an air force pilot! not really. i also watched bedknobs and broomsticks today. apparently it was a good day for movies! i'm not a huge fan of movies [they take up so much time], but sometimes you just want to watch bounty hunter pigs in fascist italy and nazis getting comically beat up by magically animated sets of armor. "come to me, little crippled girl, my brother is not voldemort!" i feel like all i talk about anymore is attractive men which is hilarious for a number of awkward reasons. let's not get into them. but the main point is. martin luther equals reformation win.

captain hammer, corporate tool.

so the last installment of dr. horrible goes up tonight and i am really excited for it. there is nothing better than a musical about superheroes directed by joss whedon and starring neil patrick harris. seriously, the songs are fantastic. everything is fantastic in that thing. a-plus.

i haven't been feeling my usual awesometacular self lately and i don't know if it's just stress or something else. here's hoping it's just stress and i'll feel better about myself starting tomorrow. also, i really want some frozen yogurt now. what a crazy, random happenstance!

cambridge, you guys!

writing a blog entry is probably the last thing i should be doing right now yet here i am anyway! this week has been very long and filled with math. which is pretty much the worst way a week can be filled. my math class ends on saturday and it is imperative that i do well on the final or i will have to take the class again. which is totally awesome. i am bad at math. but hey, i am a humanities major. even my advisor was like, yeah, we humanities people, not so good with the math. but whatever, it will be over soon. i just have a lot to study. plus i have a quiz today and a test tomorrow in my history class, but i love that class so it cancels out somehow? seriously, that class is amazing. i may or may not have a teeny crush on my professor even though he is older than my dad. he's just so cute! and he plays drums at his church with his wife! and he went to cambridge! i think i really just want to hang out with him and talk about thomas becket and henry viii. but really, who doesn't want to do that? font-family: verdana;">and it makes me think of warm summer nights and it's just good times all around. i also like every goddamned song off of "the life pursuit" and will one day be scottish and write songs about playing football and buying cocaine and various other quaint topics. fantastic.

i have a feeling i will be talking about music in here a lot. c'est la vie.

my cousin heather was in town this weekend. among many other things, we went to ikea. i already knew i loved sweden, but i'll say it again. i love sweden. so many good things come from there. it is one of my many, many life goals to move to stockholm one day. every photograph of me will feature me in a scarf, i suspect. and pigtails, because apparently every girl in sweden is supposed to look like maria. god i love that comic. she's doing a fundraising drive for the next two weeks and every donation over twenty bucks gets a hand-drawn sketch and i want one so bad but i've already spent like $55 over the past month or so on art and i really shouldn't spend anymore. sigh. we'll just have to see.

and now i'm off to read historical fiction about ancient crete. hott.

post punk always equals sophomore year.

so i am listening to the appleseed cast and as my title suggests, they remind me of high school. getting into bands was so fun back then. i remember makeoutclub.com was a goldmine of new bands to discover; it's where i found jawbreaker, and for that, i am eternally grateful. although i think i got into jets to brazil first, but whatever. it's all blake schwartzenbach in the end. but yeah, appleseed cast! one of the best shows i ever went to, and i went with the most random people. i think it was like, sara lambeth, brian donkersley, and ben manker-seale, and my dad drove us, and we met the drummer and the bassist on the train tracks next to solar culture, and it was amazing. i miss going to shows! but music talk is boring so i'll move on.

i should have been asleep like two hours ago but my sleep schedule is all messed up due to work. i work from 8 pm to 1 am a couple times a week now at kohl's of all places but it's a job. i need money for my house, which i should be moving into sometime in august, so you know. welcome to the working week and all that. i am so excited about my house. i have been buying art off of etsy and places like that and the other day i bought a rug. it's a very grown-up feeling to be excited about buying a rug. i will have to have some sort of get together when i get moved in, though my place is tiny and will probably only fit like two other people. but i have a back patio. and awesome retro wood paneling. so what i'm saying is i will make it work somehow.

i have a feeling i will be writing in here a lot. c'est la vie.

hark! a blog is born.

so i have started a new blog, because it is 1:45 in the morning and that is what you do. truefax.
